Catherine McAuley High School

605 Stevens Avenue (corner of Stevens Avenue and Walton Street)

Named after the Irish founder of the Sisters of Mercy, a group dedicated to social service and the education of girls and women, Catherine McAuley was Maine's only Catholic college preparatory school for girls. McAuley was founded in 1969 from a merger of two Portland Catholic girls' high schools, St. Joseph's and Cathedral High. In 2015 it became an independent private girl’s high school, not affliliated with the Sisters of Mercy.
