Beginning with women who worked in a chewing gum factory, the Congress Street walk proceeds to the Cumberland County Court House and Portland City Hall, where women have held positions of leadership. It continues along Congress Street to the Wadsworth-Longfellow House, where women managed large households, and where, now, people learn about that history. The walk detours to sites of women workers along Cumberland Avenue before returning to Congress Street via Forest Avenue and continues to Free Street and the Portland Museum of Art. The Congress Street walk can be combined with the State Street walk.
