Somerset Lagoon is akin to Knudsen Pond in that it is a transient body of brackish water that appears during high, high tides. Located along Somerset Street in between Whole Foods Market and Verizon, the lagoon extends in an easterly direction toward the stoplights at Franklin Arterial and to the west toward Pearl Street. The extent is determined by factors such as off shore winds and barometric pressure, but the impact is often considerable, as can be seen in the above pop-out photograph. Water splashes up onto the brick sidewalk, making passage difficult for auto, bicycle and foot traffic during times of inundation.
